【Press Release】 We moved into the Open Innovation Lab of the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center and opened a computer center to perform heart simulations.

Japan Medical Device Corporation (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: OKANO Takafumi, hereinafter referred to as “JMD”) and PIA Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: NAKANISHI Kiyoshi, hereinafter referred to as “PIA”) have moved into the Open Innovation Lab (OIL) of the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center from January 31, 2022. https://www.ncvc.go.jp/oic/science_cafe/open_innovation_lab/

OIL has a joint research agreement with the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center to promote “comprehensive research on the development and commercialization of a multi-scale multi-physics heart simulator that supports the determination of treatment policies for cardiovascular diseases and the improvement of prognosis.” We have opened a computer center necessary to perform regenerative simulations of pediatric hearts before surgery and prediction simulations after surgery using multiple virtual surgical models. The center has introduced computers that can process data equivalent to a supercomputer and perform complex calculations at high speeds.. The person responsible for managing this computer is SHIMO Jinse of PIA (and supervised by JMD), and the operation manager is CHIBA Shuichi of JMD. By promoting joint research using the computer center established by moving into OIL, we will further accelerate the practical application and commercialization of the heart simulator, contribute to the progress of heart disease treatment around the world, and contribute to the improvement of QOL (quality of life) of all humankind.
